Still tired after last nights epic Beethoven 9 with the BBC, but good news this morning. I have now acquired a copy of Dounis' arrangement of Chopins Opus 25 no.3 etude in D flat major. There was only one copy in Europe that I could find of this out of print manuscript, which I now have bringing my total of out of print documents needed down to 5! Cannot see a reason why the owners of these editions do not reprint them all, come on Alfred Publishing do the right thing!!!

We're excited to announce our new concert series!

VILLIERS QUARTET LAUNCHES NEW CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES

IN HAMMERSMITH & FULHAM

The Villiers Quartet (VQ) comprised of an international group of musicians, launches a new concert series in association with St. Andrew's Church, Hammersmith & Fulham.  The series, entitled Haydn & Beyond, consists of six Sunday afternoon concerts chronicling the history of Franz Josef Haydn and the evolution of the string quartet.  For each concert, the Villiers Quartet will perform a Haydn quartet contrasted with works by other composers.  The first concert will take place at 3:00pm on September 25, 2011.

The concert series also includes the final round of the VQ New Works Competition, an international competition for emerging composers.  In a rare feat for classical competitions, the quartet is doing away with juries, and will instead let the winner be chosen by live audience vote.  The final round will take place on April 29, 2012.

These concerts are part of a wider music residency the Villiers Quartet is establishing in Hammersmith & Fulham, which incorporates performance, music education, and service for the H&F community.  As part of its series, the VQ will perform community concerts for audiences who do not have access to live music, including a student collaboration with the local group IntoUniversity, mentoring at-risk students to prepare for university placements.  The Quartet will also work with the St. Andrew's Homeless Project, which provides support and rehabilitation for homeless persons in the H&F area.

Members of the Villiers Quartet have given concerts across the UK, Europe, China, Japan, Indonesia, Canada, and in 30 states across the USA. The Quartet focuses on producing concerts which explore the relationship of music with history, dance, art, literature, digital media, science and technology.  Most recently, the Villiers Quartet performed at legendary London jazz venue Ronnie Scott's as part of the British Jazz Festival with vocalist Seaming To. The VQ is proud to be starting its new music residency and concert series at St. Andrew's Church in Hammersmith & Fulham.

announces

The 2012 Villiers Quartet New Works Competition

The Villiers Quartet seeks new compositions from young composers as part of its 2011-2012 concert season at St Andrew's Church, Fulham Fields, London, UK. The concert season, which already consists of string quartets by Haydn, Mendelssohn, Delius, and Beethoven, will feature a competition open to an international field of new and upcoming composers.

The first round will be narrowed to six entries, which will be recorded and posted on our website for online audience vote.  Three finalists will be chosen via online voting and have their works performed in London by the Villiers Quartet on April 29th, 2012.  The winner will be determined at the concert by audience vote. The winner will receive a prize of £500 and a studio recording of their piece, plus inclusion of their work into the Villiers Quartet repertoire for upcoming seasons.
