VQ Discovery: 23/24 Season

Join the VILLIERS QUARTET for 23/24 Season edition of VQ Discovery - explore and learn great music in our Online String Quartet Course!

All the past courses are now available. Please visit VQ Archive.

We are delighted to announce our new VQDiscovery courses for 23/24 Seasons. We present a survey of three wonderful quartets: Beethoven Op.127 (November/December), Haydn Emperor (February/March) and Bartok no.6 (June/July).

Our unique online course is for amateurs who love to study their music in greater depth and want to explore the art of string quartet playing. There is no need for a pre-formed group as you will be studying and discussing the music with like-minded colleagues across the UK and abroad.

Our course includes a series of online sessions with the members of the Villiers Quartet, giving you an opportunity to explore these works with us. These include instrumental sectionals, behind-the-scenes discussions with the VQ on quartet technique, a special guest lecture, historical recordings listening survey, and a play-along finale with the VQ. We also include the following preparation materials: VQ’s marked parts with fingerings and bowing suggestions, exclusive “play-along” tracks to practice your part, and a set of VQ practice segments videos. Together with the Villiers Quartet, you will unpack some of the challenges of each work and improve your understanding of the music.

Throughout these courses, you’ll have special access to the VQ for guidance, Q&A sessions, and overall musical camaraderie. You’ll enjoy our sectionals and see the music from the four different corners of the rehearsal room, and you’ll get to know each player in the VQ as part of our fabulous VQDiscovery community.
